Oh Amsterdam!

I have finally made it to the last leg of my summer here in Amsterdam. I have been staying with my friend Melody at her boyfriend at their flat right outside the downtown area of Amsterdam. It has already been an amazing summer and coming here has just made it 10 times more awesome.
On Friday, Christian took Mel and I out to my first Football game! It was the LG Amsterdam Tournament 2008, in which AFC Ajax (Amsterdam) vs. Arsenal FC (England) played a friendly game to get a feel for each other, sort of like a preseason game. Arsenal made me a proud Englishmen by winning the match 3 - 2. Ajax made a strong effort in the first quarter with 2 goals in a row and then Arsenal setup some sweet cross shots and nailed them right in! The game was so awesome, I can’t even really begin to describe it. I felt like I was a college football game but only better. The crowd was singing chants (all in dutch, but I made up my own song to go along) and dancing like crazy! It was a great time and plan on going to another game asap!
Last night we celebrated Melody’s 23rd birthday (gosh she is getting old) with a sweet Mardi Gras themed party. Everyone was wearing mask’s, drinking, dancing, and having a great time. It was really cool to meet all of their friends and party the dutch way.
Today is another beautiful day here in Amsterdam and I think we are getting ready to head out soon and check out the town some more. I leave here on a Tuesday and I will be sleeping in the airport as I wait for my next flight home the following morning. Its going to be a rough week once I get back to the States, but I am really looking forward to moving into my new suite and getting started with school.
