Something that really gets to me
The school year has finally started and I have quickly realized how much university can suck money out of you. The average cost for school books and supplies is around $1,130 annually. And I have been able to typically cut that cost down quite a bit by buying my books off half.com. You can generally get books for 50% less than buying them new or even “used” from the book stores around Edmond. But this year I was SHOT down when it came to trying to save a bit of dough.
The department heads at the University of Central Oklahoma have decided to make students start using “custom made” text books. Which means that the books are EXACTLY the same as the book being sold on another campus, but at the back of the book is a section of chapters that the department wanted to also teach to the students. Being custom books, that means you can’t buy them anywhere else and they have to bought as new books. At over $100 a pop its pretty ridiculous to me. Soon I will have to start looking at what books teachers to use and making sure they don’t use “custom” books instead of looking at the rating they get from other students.
That’s just my little rant. I had to get it out of my system.
